Project Based Learning Term 3

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was:

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is how people celebrate certain things and what clothing they wear, what gods they do or don’t worship, etc, etc.

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do (you may have read it)

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Maui and the sun (several times), battle of the mountains, Maui and the goddess of fire and Maui and the big fish. I have written my own legend (not a Maori one) called grove of the dragons.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection:

For our performance I contributed by painting some of the artwork and writing some of the script.
I wasn't actually there for the day we performed it,
but from what people tell me, it was a good performance.

I think the show might impact on others by attempting to bring the legend alive.

What I learned about working with others was
that it can be hard as everyone is unique and all have different ideas.
Some people actually ignore my ideas (even if they're really good)

So that will be the end of my blog post, so bye!
